Never mind if today is one of those days when you are feeling particularly down in the dumps. All of us have those days and there are so many ways to overcome them. One of our favorite ways is to sit down with a favorite snack and tune in to a feel good movie! They leave you feeling inspired, happy and energized to take on the world all over again. There are some movies that are truly able to strike a note within us. It is the story that we identify with and for those few moments live our lives through the lives of the characters we feel most drawn to.   1. The Lunchbox (2013)

    A beautifully made movie, with a plot that unfolds almost predictably, yet doesn’t fail to warm your heart. Saajan is (played by Irrfan Khan) a grumpy, middle aged widower and finds himself in a serendipitous situation, when he is accidentally delivered the wrong lunch box. What follows is a chaste friendship with Ila (played by Nimrat Kaur), an unhappy housewife. Watch the movie for all the little moments of joy and happiness it has been able to capture, through snapshots of otherwise chaotic lives.

  1. It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)

    A classic by all means. The plot revolves around James Stewart (George Bailey) who finds himself wishing he were never born, until an angel is sent down to earth to show him how special he is. It is truly a beautiful story that makes us realize that even though we may not believe so, we are special to so many people and impact their lives in ways we never thought of.

  1. Our Idiot Brother (2011)

    A heart-warming story about a family of three sisters and one brother, a brother who is too simple and innocent to understand the clever ways of the world and keeps getting into trouble. His family almost gives up on him, until they realize how lucky they are to have him as family. A funny and beautiful movie, perfect to lighten your mood!

    This movie defies all the established traditions that Bollywood ever had for its female characters. In doing so, it paints a fresh face of the Indian society where its women are concerned. A hilarious and very telling story about a young girl who chooses life and independence over boredom in her own unique way after her fiancé dumps her, and finds her own path to happiness. She fulfills her long cherished dream of going to Europe for her honeymoon, and she does it, but on her own!

    Get ready to double up with laughter with this super adorable animated movie that will have you fall in love with its super adorable characters – especially the minions! Hear yourself “aww-ing” to the story of a master mind criminal changing because of the love of three orphan girls for him, who he planned to use as his pawns for a grand crime scheme.

There is something about these movies that help us escape the mundane reality (especially if it hasn’t been a great day), and when we come back, we know that there is no problem that cannot be overcome.
