What Did You Celebrate Today?

Birthdays, anniversaries, festivals, achievement of milestones – these are only some of the many occasions that we believe are worth celebrating. And of course they are. But what if today is not your birthday? You didn’t really hear any great news, neither is it a festive day. Does that mean today is not worthy of any kind of celebration? Living mindfully is a beautiful technique that enables you to be happy in the moment, and cherish every day as if it were a special day.

Celebrate Today!

Ask yourself, “What did I celebrate today?” every day before going to bed. Think about all those small moments that brought you joy and happiness. About the moments which made you feel accomplished – in howsoever small ways. A great way to make this a habit, and a habit that I myself follow, is to journal, or record these thoughts. Pen down a few lines about what you celebrated today in a journal, or in a “happiness log”. Make it a habit to ‘log in’ your happiness and every day celebration!

It could be anything that made you happy and brought you peace and joy. A few hours of gardening, reading a book that warmed your heart, listening to your favourite song. It could be talking to an old friend, spending quality time with your pet, blowing bubbles after ages. There are so many beautiful moments that we experience on a daily basis, yet rarely acknowledge them. This is a wonderful method for mindful living which I practice without fail, every single day. I have realized that it leaves me counting my blessings, and with an immense feeling of gratitude.

Don’t stop at celebrating only for yourself, pass on the magic. Ask your friends and family, “What did you celebrate today?” And when they say, “Nothing”, share with them the power of acknowledging moments worth celebrating through those twenty four hours that we call a day. Watch your own happiness grow as you share it with people you love.

I found that I am not the only person who is an ardent believer in this concept. Have a look at these amazing ‘every day is worth celebrating’ quotes, and you’ll know what I mean!

“Add a little confetti to each day.”Anonymous

“Every day is a birthday: every moment of it is new to us: we are born again, renewed for fresh work and endeavor.” Isaac Watts

“I create today as a celebration of my life.” – Jonathan Lockwood Huie

Have you ever wondered how every day is really your birthday? Every night at midnight, you turn a day older, and wiser. Every day you make a little bit more of yourself. You are like a phoenix, constantly re-emerging with fire and passion to live and grow. The most valuable and renewable sources of happiness, are always to be found in small, but precious moments, never in grand or tall gestures. Wish you immense happiness and joy, today and every day!
